Who is Die Hofmeisterin?

 

Katharina von Ankum is Die Hofmeisterin. After studying Comparative Literature with a focus on German in Tübingen, Berlin, and the United States, she received a Ph.D. and went on to teach at Amherst College, Smith College, the Claremont Colleges, and Cornell University. She moved to New York City to establish the German Book Office for the Frankfurt Book Fair in 1998. Most recently, she taught German Literature in an International Baccalaureate program on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

 

Her book publications include a study of the reception of Christa Wolf in East and West Germany; a monograph on Vicki Baum; an essay collection on gender and modernity in the Weimar Republic; a study guide for Anna Seghers novel Transit; and an English translation of Irmgard Keun’s Das kunstseidene Mädchen (The Artificial Silk Girl).
